About

Creativity. Skill. Experience.

History

Synthio was founded in 2017 by serial entrepreneurs Christine Martin and Jerry Martin and their long-time partner Joe Poshusta. All three are seasoned entrepreneurs, with decades of experience in high-technology startups. They have worked together as a management team for more than twenty years, founding and growing two previous high-technology manufacturing firms acquired by strategic partners.

Synthio's technology traces is history back to 1999, when Joe joined Jerry and Christine at Mesoscopic Devices, adding his expertise in compact chemical reactors to the company's deep strengths in microchannel heat exchangers and precision fluid managment. Joe led Mesoscopic Devices' expansion into fuel reformers and desulfurizers, paving the way for the company's successful line of portable solid oxide fuel cells.  Mesoscopic Devices was acquired in 2008 by Protonex and is now part of Ballard Power Corporation. In 2010 the team founded DellaTech to commercialize process intensification techniques in multiple industries.

DellaTech developed novel ionic liquid and lithium salt synthesis technology, which it commercialized through its spin-off Boulder Ionics Corporation in 2010. After raising private, family office and venture funding, Boulder Ionics was acquired by CoorsTek, an early investor and strategic partner, and renamed CoorsTek Fluorochemicals. In 2016, following the Coors family's decision to exit the fine chemicals business, the Boulder Ionics executive team continued their development of novel chemical manufacturing processes. In 2017, Dr. Poshusta, Dr. Martin and Ms. Martin formed Synthio Chemicals to commercialize novel advanced manufacturing approaches for fine chemicals.
